Tomonori Kawasaki, MD, PhD

Professor, Department of Pathology, Saitama Medical University, Hidaka, Japan

Research interests: breast cancer, soft tissue and bone tumors, gastrointestinal oncology, neuroendocrine neoplasms, surgical pathology and clinical cytology.

Dr. Kawasaki was an Associated Professor in the Department of Pathology at Iwate Medical University School of Medicine from 2014 to 2016, after studying abroad at the Department of Medical Sciences, University of Turin, Italy. Then he became a Medical Director in the Department of Pathology and Head of Laboratory in the Clinical Research Center at National Hospital Organization Nagoya Medical Center from 2016 to 2018. He has been a Professor in the Department of pathology at Saitama Medical University International Medical Center since 2018.

Dr. Kawasaki has won more than 20 awards and honors in medical field, such as the Diagnostic Pathology Academic Incentive Award at the International Academy of Pathology (Japanese Division) in 2009, the Best Poster Award at the European Society of Pathology in 2017, the Best Poster Award at the International Academy of Cytology in 2019 and the Best Oral Award at the Japanese Society of Interventional Radiology in 2021. He has obtained about 40 funding since 2008 and he currently holds the funding like Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (No. 23K11869, No. 21K06910 and No. 20K08131) from the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) (H459TR), the National Hospital Organization (NHO) Grant (H29-NHO-01), Mishima Kaiun Academic Award/Research Incentive (A-232), and Saitama University and Saitama Medical University Internal Research Grants (23-J-08, 22-J-01 and 21-J-14).

Dr. Kawasaki has joined the editorial board of Pathology International since 2020, and he became a topic editor of Diagnostics from 2021 up to now. He has published more than 120 research articles in peer-reviewed international journals (ref. https://researchmap.jp/read0145980).
